The Occupational Health Nurse will support TST and the Occupational Health Nurse Specialist to deliver the Health provision for the business and comply with Health Surveillance activities as required by the Health & Safety Executive.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) will work independently and can run the Occupational Health Department in the absence of the OHNS as per guidelines set by the OH Specialist.
  • The OHN will have a nursing qualification and be working towards a recognised OH qualification.
  • The OHAT will have gained a training qualification in the Technician role and can demonstrate competence at an advanced level from training and experience.
  • They can oversee the Administrator or Assistant of the Occupational Department to ensure the service runs in a professional timely and compliant manner.
  • Organise or oversee the maintenance of the occupational health resources and the OH diary.
  • Maintain confidential records so that they are easily auditable, accessible and meet legislative requirements that comply with patient confidentiality and GDPR requirements.
  • Monitoring of surveillance equipment to ensure it is fit for purpose and calibrated as required.
  • Ensure Occupational Health questionnaires are provided to employees as per recall dates, and assessed on their return and filed or forwarded for further action by the OHN or OHNS Nurse dependant on employees’ responses.
  • Ensure TST has a required level of trained First Aiders; in addition be able to offer First Aid independently of the OH Nurse and monitor the Senior First Aider role.
  • Be competent in working with outside agencies or internal departmental managers and staff to ensure that best practice workplace conditions are optimised for TST employees and the required Health Surveillance remains HSE compliant.
  • Carry out Occupational Health activities within own training, knowledge and capabilities, this includes eye sight testing, Audiometry, Spirometry, Biological Monitoring and one to one mental health discussions.
  • Be responsible for the OH Cohort software, train managers and employees on how to use the system when required.
  • The ability to write and train out Health education material and discuss individual Health results with employees as per training with OH nurse supervision when appropriate.
  • Required to update own knowledge and skills to continue with Health Surveillance activities.
  • Be able to attend Health & Safety & management meetings to update mangers on all aspects of Occupational Health activities.

  • Understanding of HSE legislation with regard to Health Surveillance activity for Occupational Health.
  • IT skills including MS Office.
  • Ability to oversee all purchasing for OH Department via Siteline system.

Hours of work: Monday to Friday 37.5 hours per week, 8:00am – 16:15pm.
