Established in 2000, Turbine Surface Technologies (TST) is a joint venture between Rolls-Royce and Chromalloy, providing specialist coating solutions to state-of-the-art gas turbine components. Situated on Sherwood Business Park in Annesley, Nottingham.

The Role:

This an exciting opportunity to join our dedicated Process Engineering Team.  You will be involved in both reactive problem-solving and long-term strategic project work.  You will be part of a team that have ownership of a production process, detecting trends or non-conformity, investigating root cause and implementing corrective action.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Able to take a lead engineering role within a specific process team.
  • Able to carry out multi-function/department improvement projects.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous process improvement to benefit capability, cost and reduce environmental impact.  Support TST’s drive for zero carbon by 2030.
  • Monitor process capability and understand Key Process Variables (KPVs) which influence this.  Implement and maintain a control strategy for these KPVs, present KPV data at both internal and customer reviews.  Use the data to implement improvement plans.
  • Develop, implement, validate, maintain and control Methods of Manufacture to ensure customer work packages are realised for TST coatings.
  • Investigate process deviations/non-conformance through the use of appropriate problem-solving techniques, action containment and corrective action in order to protect the customer.
  • Create and/or approve technical work instructions in compliance with TST and customer requirements.
  • Support the purchasing and validating of new manufacturing equipment.
  • Use and coach the use of Advanced Quality Tools such as Process Maps, Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (PFMEAs), Control Plans, DZD, PIR 7-steps and other tools.
  • Coach and develop team communication and presentation skills.  Lead the way in setting good examples.
  • Resolve technical problems and exercise professional judgement.
  • Capture, analyse and use data to demonstrate and improve the current and future capability of manufacturing processes.
  • Liaison with other functions such as design, manufacturing, quality and purchasing to ensure delivery of parts to set timescales and targeted costs.
  • Support production to ensure product flow in the factory.
  • Drive continuous improvements to eliminate the need for concessions and rework.
  • Control and reduce costs to drive profitability in the factory by continuously challenging the methods of manufacture and the designs.
  • Manage programme changes with effective stakeholder management.
  • Develop key relationships.  Internally across functions and externally with customers.
  • Strive to maintain a positive, engaging work experience.

Required Skills & Attributes:

  • You will hold a degree in a relevant field or national equivalent in relevant field.  This includes, but is not limited to: Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or appropriate level of experience in a manufacturing/aerospace environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft suite (including Excel and PowerPoint).
  • The ability to present technical findings through producing high quality technical reports and delivering professional presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated, a strong team player able to collaborate across functions.
  • Ability to manage and solve complex problems.
  • Capable to work on multiple projects, managing project plans and time scales to ensure delivery.
  • Knowledge of engineering problem solving tools (Lean, Six Sigma).

Desirable Skills & Attributes:

  • Experience using relevant engineering software (Minitab, CAD, Power BI, databases).
  • Experience managing a small team.

Hours of work: Monday to Friday 37.5 hours per week, 8:00am – 16:15pm.
